Chesapeake Urology Physicians Inducted into Healing Hands Guild
OWINGS MILLS, Md., June 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Chesapeake Urology Associates, PA, the premier urology practice in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region, is pleased to announce that two of its physicians were honored by the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and inducted into its Healing Hands Guild.
The Healing Hands Guild was established to honor physicians who excel in their clinical skill and show an unwavering commitment to excellent and compassionate care. Daniel D. Dietrick, MD, chief of surgery at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, and Marc H. Siegelbaum, MD, chief of Urology and medical director of the Urologic Oncology Institute at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, were honored during a ceremony Tuesday night, June 11, 2013.
"We are pleased to have two of our physicians inducted into the inaugural Healing Hands Guild," says Sanford J. Siegel, MD, president and CEO of Chesapeake Urology Associates. "Our physicians work tirelessly to care for their patients, helping to diagnose, treat and improve their lives. We're pleased to see them recognized for their dedication and commitment to caring for thousands of patients each year."
Dr. Dietrick specializes in the treatment of prostate cancer, including da Vinci robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. He performed the first da Vinci robotic prostatectomy at a community hospital in Maryland in 2005 and has performed well over 500 successful operations since then, more than any other community urologist in Maryland. In addition, his focus includes medical and minimally invasive treatment of enlarged prostate (BPH), voiding problems in men and no-scalpel vasectomy. His interest in cancer treatment began in the 1980s with work at the National Cancer Institute and continued through his years on the clinical faculty of Stanford Medical Center and the Johns Hopkins University Department of Urology.
Dr. Dietrick served as Prostate Chair of the Maryland Chapter of the American Cancer Society, was awarded one of the first Young Leaders in Urology awards of the American Urological Association, and is a member of the American College of Physician Executives. In addition, he has led and served on many quality improvement teams, medical boards and executive boards at several local hospitals.
Dr. Siegelbaum specializes in laparoscopic kidney surgery, da Vinci robotic prostate surgery, pediatric urology and penile and incontinence prosthetics. He served the board of the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center for nine years from both administrative and medical perspectives, and he is a clinical investigator with the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG). He is featured in the U.S. News Top Doctors National Listing and has been selected by his peers on numerous occasions as a Top Doctor in Baltimore magazine and as a Super Doctor in The Washington Post Magazine. Dr. Siegelbaum has repeatedly been recognized in the "Guide to America's Top Physicians" and he was a finalist of the Daily Record 2007 Health Care Hero Award. He also is a urological consultant to the Baltimore Orioles.
Dr. Siegelbaum is an assistant clinical professor of urology and student mentor at the University of Maryland Medical School. He organizes free prostate screenings while seeing patients at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center's St. Clare Medical Outreach Program.
