Cheetah Mobile Tops Internet Services Category in WPP's BrandZ Top 30 Chinese Global Brand Builders 2017 Ranking
BEIJING, Jan. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cheetah Mobile Inc. (NYSE: CMCM), the world's leading mobile utility and content app developer, today announced that it has been ranked Number 1 in the Internet Services category of WPP's first BrandZ Top 30 Chinese Global Brand Builders 2017 ranking. Cheetah Mobile also ranked Number 2 in the Mobile Gaming category and Number 9 overall.
The report, produced by WPP and Kantar Millward Brown in collaboration with Google, leverages WPP's BrandZ analytics and Google Surveys to identify and rank Chinese brands based on the strength of their brands outside of China.
"Four years ago, Cheetah Mobile first ventured overseas as a utility software company," said Scarlett Xiao, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing and Business Development at Cheetah Mobile. "We achieved great success overseas and many Chinese Internet companies soon followed suit. This can be considered the first phase of our company's development. In the second half of 2016, Cheetah began its transition towards a more content-focused strategy. This can be considered the second phase of our development. We are honored to be included on the BrandZ Top 30 Chinese Global Brand Builders 2017 ranking and receive recognition as one of the strongest Chinese brands overseas."
Cheetah Mobile has successfully fulfilled its innovative mobile utility+content strategy, growing into the first fully global Chinese mobile Internet brand. As of September 2016, 80% of the company's 612 million monthly active users came from outside of China.
