MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- This year's CHEERSPORT National Championships, a Varsity Spirit event, recently hosted more than 23,000 of the country's top cheerleaders and dancers. The competition took place Feb. 12 – 14 at Atlanta's Georgia World Congress Center. This year's number of participating athletes increased by nearly ten percent and kicked off with a team up for St. Jude Spirited by Varsity event – an exciting exhibition from World's Level 5 divisions that raised more than $40,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®.
These teams have spent many months training, and their hours of diligence and preparation were highlighted on the famous competition floor. Now in its 20th year, the two-day events hosted more than 23,000 cheerleaders and dancers from over 1,100 teams. Cheerleading teams are judged on their stunting and tumbling skills, crowd-leading abilities and overall performance, while the dance competition is judged on choreography, technique, execution and overall effect.
"We're honored to host this event, which allows talented cheerleaders and dancers from across the country an opportunity to demonstrate their hard work and dedication," said Jeff Fowlkes, President of CHEERSPORT, one of the Varsity Spirit brands. "We are enormously proud that these talented athletes helped us to raise more than $40,000 for St. Jude, whose work is very important to us."
