CHCI Congressional Interns and Hyundai Motor America Join Habitat for Humanity to Build Community Housing
WASHINGTON, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), the nation's premier Latino youth leadership development and educational organization, is partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. for a day of community service on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. The community service project is supported by CHCI Internship partner Hyundai Motor America and will assist in building a home in Aberdeen, MD.

As part of an intensive program that exposes young Latinos to the legislative process and strengthens their professional and leadership skills, CHCI Congressional Interns are civically engaged through the completion of a community service project while in Washington, D.C.

CHCI's 2011 Summer Congressional Internship Class features college undergraduate students from 11 states and Puerto Rico and 19 different fields of study. Interns gain hands-on experience working in Congress and gain access to national leaders and a prominent network of CHCI alumni.
Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. sells homes to families who are ineligible for conventional financing offering no-profit, no-interest, and 25 year mortgages for buyers. Prospective homeowners make a $500 down payment and contribute 300 hours of sweat equity towards construction of their own home. Mortgage payments on completed homes (typically $400 - $425 a month) are reinvested in a revolving Fund for Humanity to finance further construction and the acquisition of additional properties and building materials.
