Charlotte CIOs Reveal Hiring Plans for Second Half of 2015
Robert Half Technology Survey Shows 22 Percent Plan to Expand IT Staff
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty-two percent of Charlotte-area technology executives recently surveyed expect to expand their information technology (IT) teams in the second half of 2015, according to the just-released Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report. This is a 5-point increase from the previous six months and from the same time period in 2014. In addition, 64 percent plan to hire only for open IT roles, 10 percent plan to put hiring plans on hold, and 2 percent expect to reduce their IT staff in the last six months of the year.

"Many companies are adding skilled professionals to their technology teams in the Charlotte area," said Lucy Marino, Charlotte metro market manager of Robert Half Technology. "As companies seek to maximize efficiency with their technical resources and IT becomes a critical part of daily operations, we are seeing demand increasing, particularly for front-end and back-end developers, database developers, and network and system engineers."
Hiring forecasts are based on interviews with more than 2,500 chief information officers (CIOs) from 25 major U.S. markets who were asked to provide a six-month hiring outlook.
Recruiting Challenges and Skills in Demand
Recruiting still remains a challenge, as 65 percent of CIOs said it's somewhat or very challenging to find skilled IT professionals today. They also revealed the skills in greatest demand within their organizations, which include:
- Desktop support (55 percent)
- Database management (55 percent)
- Network administration (50 percent)
- Wireless network management (49 percent)
Addressing Recruiting Challenges
Seventy-two percent of survey respondents said they are taking action to address recruiting challenges for IT staff. The following is a breakdown of the steps they are taking:
- Increasing networking activities (55 percent)
- Hiring consultants to augment current staff (46 percent)
- Using recruiters or staffing firms (42 percent)
- Offering referral bonuses (41 percent)

The surveys were developed by Robert Half Technology and conducted by an independent research firm. To ensure that companies from all segments were represented in the study, the sample was stratified by number of employees. The results were weighted to reflect the appropriate employee population in the United States. The margin of error is +/-1.6 percent at the 90 percent confidence level.
