Charlie Rose to interview Christine Lagarde at the Inaugural Gala of Friends of Hermione Lafayette in America, October 14th
NEW YORK, Sept. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Charlie Rose, renowned journalist and newscaster, will interview Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, on the occasion of the Inaugural Gala of The Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America. The live interview will replicate the signature round table format of a Charlie Rose television show and take place in the presence of Honorary Host, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Former Secretary of State, Bernard Henri Levy, esteemed French author, philosopher and playwright, and Miles Young, President of Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America and Worldwide Chairman and CEO of Ogilvy & Mather.
They come together at this event to support the 17 year effort to rebuild an authentic replica of the frigate Hermione, the tall ship that Marquis de Lafayette sailed from France in 1780 bearing news to General George Washington of French support in ships, men and money for the revolution that changed the world. The Hermione, handcrafted completely in 19th Century technology, will return to the United States next summer (www.Hermione2015.com) making stops in 13 iconic ports along the eastern seaboard for the American public to see and experience.
The gala is raising funds to help support the multi-faceted cultural & educational events to take place in every port of call and to develop an ambitious array of learning materials that will be used in schools long after the Hermione returns to Rochefort, France in September of 2015.
Topics to be mused between them:
- Reflections on French American ties
- The Global Economic Landscape
- The Importance of Remembering The Hermione and the Marquis de Lafayette today
Says Rose: "I have known and admired Christine Lagarde for a long time. She was the person who presented me with my Legion d'Honneur. She represents in so many ways a global figure of consequence."

In July 2011, Lagarde became the eleventh Managing Director of the IMF and the first woman to hold that position. Lagarde joined the French government in June 2005 as Minister for Foreign Trade. As Chairman of the G-20, when France took over its presidency for the year 2011, she launched a wide-ranging work agenda on the reform of the international monetary system. Early in her career Christine Lagarde joined the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie (1981). She became executive committee member there in 1995, and was elected the company's first female Chairman of the Global Executive Committee in 1999. In 2004 she became Chairman of the Global Strategic Committee. Christine Lagarde was named Officer in the Légion d'honneur in April 2012. She is the mother of two sons.
