"The restructured site includes hundreds of real-life best practices from schools across the nation, as well as other resources and helpful information," said President & CEO Mark Hyatt. "Good character education is simply good education—you'll know what I mean when you see what's happening at the schools of character on the CEP website."
The redesigned website was made possible through the support of a grant from the John Templeton Foundation. It features resources for all teachers to improve student academics, behavior, and classroom culture. The content on the site is more portable, sharable, and interactive through social media.
"People come to CEP's site looking for free resources, lesson plans, information about character education and its best practices," said Katie Hood, web content coordinator. "Our site's new design helps educators, students, parents and the community find what they want more easily."
From National School of Character lesson plans and Promising Practices to blogs and chats about what works (or doesn't) in the classroom, the site promises to be the leading online community for educators committed to providing quality character education for all.
Stories and resources developed by CEP's National Schools of Character (NSOC) showcase the transformative power of character education.
"Our 2011 NSOCs will create videos, blog posts, social media interactions, and more to give a concrete picture to schools aspiring to create effective character education in their own school communities," says Lara Maupin, director of the NSOC program. "This diverse group of public, private, charter schools and even one school district can inspire any school to believe it can become a school of character, and the website will make outreach easier for these exemplar schools to share their experiences, so that every school truly can become a school of character."
Site visitors will also find resources about current key issues in schools, including bullying, school climate, and academic integrity.
A one-stop-shop for all things character development, the site connects educators with resources. It offers parents support. It gives students a voice. And it shows the larger community how comprehensive character education serves as the foundation for a more intelligent, hardworking, and ethical society.
"Our goal was to make CEP the de facto standard for finding the latest thinking, best practices and most engaging conversations about character in today's classrooms and country," Hood said.
Finally there is an interactive, engaging, and ample resource online dedicated to promoting quality character education for all. Visit www.character.org today and connect, engage, participate in CEP's growing online community!
