Though the title is new, the role is not new for Chapman. She oversaw the five-year, multifaceted development of Securian's enterprise risk management (ERM) program which is in daily use by all Securian business units and financial management departments.
"Securian's strong risk management is one of the primary reasons we successfully weathered the recent financial crisis and remain one of the nation's strongest financial services companies," said Robert Senkler, chairman and CEO. "Leslie's creativity and leadership have been a tremendous asset as we've developed our risk management program and will serve her and the company well in her role as CRO."
Chapman also was named by Minneapolis-based "Finance & Commerce" newspaper to its tenth annual list of Top Women in Finance. She and the other honorees were recognized during a dinner and program November 10 in the Hyatt Regency's Nicollet Ballroom in downtown Minneapolis.
Chapman is the fourth woman from Securian to be named to the "Finance & Commerce" list. The others were: |
2006 - Lynne Mills, retired senior vice president and portfolio manager, Advantus Capital Management |
2004 - Marilyn Froelich, vice president and portfolio manager, Advantus Capital Management |
2001 – Dianne Orbison, former president, Advantus Capital Management |
Chapman, a graduate of Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN, joined Securian in 1976 as an actuarial trainee. She has held increasingly responsible positions in several areas of the company, including taxation, rating agency relations, and risk management.
Since 1880, Securian Financial Group and its affiliates have provided financial security for individuals and businesses in the form of insurance, investments and retirement plans. Now one of the nation's largest financial services providers, it is the holding company parent of a group of companies that offer a broad range of financial services.
