Changing the way the World Perceives Disability: Global Disability Inclusion & FTL Moda team again to bring models with disabilities to NY Fashion Week
SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla., Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Models from all over the world have ascended on New York this week to feature the collections of veteran designers, and newcomers for the Spring/Summer 2017 shows.
Yet, one show is consistently recognized for its groundbreaking approach to NYFW – and that is the show and partnership between Global Disability Inclusion and FTL Moda. This marks the 5th season in a row of the partnership between two organizations who are on a mission to raise awareness about Disability Inclusion, showing the world models with disabilities deserve a place in fashion, beauty, media, marketing and advertising.
Returning, also for her 5th season is model Shaholly Ayers, who is also the brand ambassador for Global Disability Inclusion. Shaholly was the first model ever to walk the runway without a prosthetic. In fact, two seasons ago to demonstrate self-acceptance and confidence she pulled off her prosthetic at the end of the runway and finished the show without it.
"Being a part of NYFW is a dream come true for any model, especially a model who is different. I am honored to be involved with Global Disability Inclusion and FTL Moda, and to help the world see people with disabilities should be recognized for their accomplishments and not their disability," said Ayers.
Joining Shaholly will be two newcomers to fashion week, Jude Hass and Chelsea Werner. Jude's appearance on the runway is historic as he is the first young man with Downs Syndrome to walk in NYFW. "I knew one day I would be famous," said Hass.
Chelsea Werner is a Gold Medalist in Gymnastics in the Special Olympics. The Paralympic Games start today, so it is fitting Chelsea will help the world view athletes with disabilities differently during the show.
Both are eager to join the movement to change the way the world perceives disability. Be sure to check out the shows on September 8th & 10th.
