Chairmen Selected for Chinese Drywall Insurance Program
PHILADELPHIA, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Insurance disputes continue to mount over who ultimately will pay the cost of any damage or injury from the use of Chinese drywall, according to Tom Hagy, CEO of HB Litigation Conferences. Hagy pointed to the January lawsuit filed in New Orleans by 700 homeowners against 14 insurance companies and last month's suit in Florida by an affiliate of a major global insurer for a declaration against coverage of claims.
"Insurance plays a unique and vital role in the global economy. When large losses occur insurance companies are inevitable and critical players, just as they have been in asbestos and environmental claims for decades," said Hagy, who edited a report on so-called long-tail insurance claims litigation in the 1980s and 1990s.
Hagy said his team at HB Litigation Conferences has selected a highly qualified chairman to lead their "Chinese Drywall Litigation & Coverage Conference" at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New Orleans on May 18, 2010 – Jan Douglas Atlas of Adorno & Yoss of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and an additional chair will be announced shortly.
Atlas is a partner and member of Adorno & Yoss' commercial litigation department and managing partner of the firm's Ft. Lauderdale office, and is a member of the Defense Steering Committee of the Chinese Drywall Multi-District Litigation (MDL).
Kanner is founder and senior member at Kanner & Whiteley, and brings to the conference a wealth of experience litigating, among other things, environmental, toxic tort and commercial litigation.
The chairman worked closely with HB's Senior Program Developer Jaimee Taibi, Esq., to prepare an agenda with the following sessions: What is Happening or Not Happening at the State Capital; MDL Update; A Closer Look at the First Set of MDL Trials & State Cases; Remediation Protocols & Cost Estimations; On the Rise – Coverage Cases and the Claims Asserted; Insurance Procedural Maneuverings Behind the Scenes – Where do Cases Really Belong?; Evolving Legal Theories – How the Debates will Frame the Litigation; The World of Discovery & How to be Ethical.
