Chairman Larry Uhlick retires from BBVA Compass board of directors
- Chairman played key role in navigating regulatory landscape
- CEO Manolo Sanchez will assume the role and responsibilities
HOUSTON, Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass today announced that Larry Uhlick is retiring as chairman of the board of directors of BBVA Compass and its holding company, BBVA Compass Bancshares Inc. Manolo Sanchez, BBVA Compass president and CEO, will take over as chairman upon Uhlick's departure Sept. 30.
Uhlick plans to continue working on policy issues in international banking and financial services.

Over the course of his career, Uhlick has distinguished himself as an expert in regulatory and legislative affairs. Before his appointment as BBVA Compass chairman, he spent 23 years as the chief executive of the Institute of International Bankers, which represents internationally headquartered banks from 40 countries that operate in the United States.
"Larry's deep understanding of international banking and his keen insight into regulatory issues have been a real benefit to BBVA Compass," said Sanchez. "He has played a key role in the growth and success of our bank, helping us to effectively navigate the Washington landscape during an important and challenging time for the industry."
Uhlick also served as vice president and counsel at Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., where he was responsible for legislative and regulatory matters. Prior to that, he was vice president and counsel of the New York Clearing House Association, the nation's first and largest bank clearing house, and practiced law with the firm of Davis Polk & Wardell LLP from 1970 to 1976.
Uhlick is a graduate of Adelphi University and holds a master's degree in political science and a law degree from Syracuse University as well as an advanced master's, or LL.M., from New York University School of Law.
