Chadbourne & Parke LLP Awards First Middle East-North Africa Student Fellowship
NEW YORK, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP announced today that it has awarded its first Middle East-North Africa (MENA) Student Fellowship to Jacob A. Zenn, currently enrolled at Georgetown University Law Center.
Reflecting the importance to Chadbourne of its MENA practice and of the firm's commitment to the region, the Fellowship Program provides a grant to fund the summer internship of one J.D. or LL.M. student with a not-for-profit organization. The organization proposed by the student must be an entity that assists in efforts to strengthen community relations, further education or healthcare, or foster economic, social or political reform in the Middle East or North Africa.
"The expansion of our MENA practice is a consequence of the firm's extensive experience in energy, project finance, and cross-border acquisitions, as well as our growing relationships with clients in the Middle East and North Africa," said Ayse Yuksel, head of Chadbourne's MENA/Turkey corporate practice. "We continue to reinvigorate our commitment to the region through programs like the MENA fellowship."
Mr. Zenn is expected to earn his J.D. in May 2011 from Georgetown. He received his graduate degree in international affairs from Johns Hopkins SAIS, Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies in 2007 and his B.A. from Emory University in 2005. He speaks or is conversant in 13 languages.
Mr. Zenn has chosen to complete his summer internship in Yemen under the guidance of his sponsoring organization, the National Organization for Protecting Rights and Freedoms (HOOD), whose primary focus is the defense of human rights in Yemen. During a six-week period, Mr. Zenn will concentrate his research on Guantanamo-related legal issues. Following the conclusion of his internship, he will take part in a supervised research project at Georgetown in the fall, at the conclusion of which he will prepare a law review article based on his experiences in Yemen.
"We are thrilled to extend the first MENA Fellowship to Mr. Zenn and are confident that he will make a strong contribution towards HOOD and their defense of human rights in Yemen," said Lisa Featherson, Manager of Recruitment and Associate Life.
