DENVER, Nov. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CH2M is pleased to announce that Senior Vice President and Key Account Manager Patrick O'Keefe has been named President of the CH2M Foundation Board. O'Keefe succeeds CH2M Senior Vice President Elisa Speranza.
The CH2M Foundation partners with organizations in CH2M's operating countries to develop sustainable communities; to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education; and to foster employee engagement. As Foundation Board President O'Keefe will preside over a five-member board of directors comprised of CH2M employees from offices around the world. O'Keefe will work with executive director, Ellen Sandberg, to carry out the mission of the CH2M Foundation and the proper stewardship of the foundation's funds.
"Patrick has served as a board member of the CH2M Foundation since 2012, and has skillfully and strategically contributed to our successful philanthropic endeavors. As executive director, I'm grateful and honored to count on Patrick's leadership in the coming years to continue our positive impact," says CH2M Foundation Executive Director Ellen Sandberg.
O'Keefe has spent the majority of his 25-year career with CH2M, holding key roles on some of CH2M's most iconic programs locally and abroad including serving as Manager of Closure Support for the Rocky Flats Closure Program. The $7 billion, 10-year project represented one of the largest and most complex environmental restoration efforts at the time, converting a former nuclear weapons facility to a National Wildlife refuge. O'Keefe is a graduate of Colorado State University and has made his home in the Denver area where he is solidly engaged in the community through leadership and volunteer activities.
"Our people make a difference in communities around the world through their daily work. The CH2M Foundation reinforces their commitment by focusing on areas of critical importance to our employees and the communities we serve. I am honored to facilitate this important work through my role as CH2M Foundation Board President," says O'Keefe.
CH2M launched its corporate foundation in 1992 to honor the firm's founders–Holly Cornell, Burke Hayes, Jim Howland and Fred Merryfield, and support their legacy of strengthening communities through engineering. Today, the CH2M Foundation is a robust philanthropic organization, which was relaunched in 2013 with a refreshed mission and strategic programs. The CH2M Foundation supports organizations around the globe awarding $1 million annually. Since 2013, the foundation has donated more than $3 million to STEM education initiatives, and through employee volunteers has built five pedestrian bridges in Nicaragua, Panama and Rwanda.
While the CH2M Foundation supports an extensive global program, it also has a deep local connection in Denver, currently working with five Denver-based strategic partners: Denver School of Science and Technology Public Schools; Girls Inc. of Metro Denver; Engineers Without Borders; Water For People; and Bridges to Prosperity all of which support our mission to promote STEM and sustainable communities.
