Mr. Danko was joined by a panel of three thought leaders who contributed to the discussion of ideas and lessons learned to innovatively create resource-efficient, vibrant, connected cities-accessible communities that attract business and provide an environment where people want to live and work.
Mr. Danko shared key strategies that have contributed to successful outcomes on major urban projects and programmes at CH2M HILL. He focused on the importance of an inclusive approach, a smart urban design plan that accentuates the city's strengths, connectivity and a framework for success.
"Connected and competitive cities are not all about the gadgets, buildings, transportation, and other infrastructure; it is how we create the public 'experience'-the streets and squares, the places and parks-that will be the lasting legacy of cities," Mr. Danko said. "Integrating the historic and cultural fabric with creativity and innovation creates a sense of place in the public realm. This creates community-that sense of belonging to something special about 'my place.' It is key to develop diverse solutions that include everyone in the community," he added.
