CFY Launches the Next Generation of Their Free K-12 PowerMyLearning Platform
Enhanced free online learning platform makes it faster and easier to discover and use Common Core-aligned video tutorials, academic games, interactive simulations, and more to personalize learning for every student
NEW YORK, Oct. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This September, education nonprofit CFY (http://www.cfy.org) launched the next generation of PowerMyLearning® (http://PowerMyLearning.org), a free digital learning platform for K-12 students, parents, and educators. The new PowerMyLearning includes a sleek interface, incredibly fast speed, and enhanced features designed to help personalize the learning experience for students and help them gain ownership of their learning.
With the launch of the new platform, PowerMyLearning is now offering more content than ever before, with more than 3,000 of the most compelling free online learning activities for kids available on the web from some of the top publishers. This content is comprised of carefully vetted educational games, videos, and interactive simulations. All content in math and English Language Arts has been tightly aligned to the Common Core State Standards by CFY's expert team of teachers and instructional designers.
Superior search capabilities enable users to quickly browse for the activities they need by grade and subject and by Common Core domain, strand, cluster, or standards. Users can also conduct keyword searches to locate learning activities by name, publisher, skill, interest, and more. The new PowerMyLearning has optimized functionality for teachers to develop and assign Playlists – sequences of PowerMyLearning activities and a longtime favorite feature – making it possible to fully personalize the learning experience based on individual student needs. A new alert system has also been incorporated to help students and their parents manage Playlist assignments.
"We are very excited to have launched an enhanced platform that not only provides students, teachers, and parents with an improved user experience, but also better meets the diverse learning needs of individual students," said Elisabeth Stock, CEO and co-founder of CFY. "Because PowerMyLearning is available for free anywhere, at any time, teachers and parents can better support students in meeting the expectations set by the Common Core for college-readiness. Even more, PowerMyLearning continues to enable and encourage students to learn on their own. When students take ownership of their learning, they develop a sense of responsibility and self-motivation, qualities that will help them succeed long after they've left the classroom."
PowerMyLearning is currently being used in more than 13,000 school communities across the country and that number is growing rapidly. Madison County School District in Richmond, Kentucky has adopted PowerMyLearning as part of its digital learning strategy at no cost to the district. "We are always looking for innovative resources that can help our teachers better tailor the learning experience to meet the needs of our students, and PowerMyLearning is helping us do that," said Tina Barrett, Technology Integration Specialist at Madison County Schools. "Our teachers are excited about the new platform and our students enjoy learning with this technology because it makes their schoolwork more relevant for them."
The next generation PowerMyLearning has been well received by edtech bloggers and members of online communities for educators. "I have written about this amazing resource on this site before, but in the past few weeks, PowerMyLearning went through a redesign and has even more to offer…With a new user interface, updated look, faster loading speeds, more games and activities, and Common Core-aligned playlists, this tool makes my blended learning efforts MUCH easier!" said Kate Peila, a blogger at Purely Paperless.
To meet the needs of the ever-growing PowerMyLearning community, CFY will continue to introduce new features and add additional resources. In the near future, users can expect to see many more educational activities added to the platform, along with a revamped reporting feature and a more dynamic student user interface.
