CFY Expands PowerMyLearning Platform To Drive K-3 Learning
Expansion of free platform to include more than 1,000 Common Core-aligned digital learning activities for K-3 students, parents, and educators
NEW YORK, March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Education nonprofit CFY announced today that it is expanding PowerMyLearning.com to include more than 1,000 Common Core-aligned K-3 digital learning activities by the end of this year in order to meet the need for high-quality digital education content for students in kindergarten through third grade. In addition, more than 80 custom Playlists that are tied to the Common Core have also been added to the platform. Playlists are a sequence of related activities that educators assign to students to meet specific learning needs.
PowerMyLearning is a free digital learning platform that allows K-12 students, educators, and parents to easily locate and use high-quality activities—academic games, video tutorials, and interactive simulations—aligned with the Common Core. The platform is already being used by students, parents, and teachers in 1,700 elementary schools across the country.
PowerMyLearning currently includes more than 600 K-3 activities aligned to the Common Core State Standards. By 2014, PowerMyLearning will have increased its available K-3 digital learning activities eightfold over two years. Efforts to expand PowerMyLearning for students in kindergarten through third grade are supported by $1 million from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
"PowerMyLearning is meeting the needs of students, parents, and teachers to personalize learning experiences and extend learning beyond the classroom," said Elisabeth Stock, CEO and co-founder of CFY. "By using digital learning activities tied to the Common Core, both parents and teachers can better support students in meeting these new standards."
Experienced educators at CFY carefully curate content from across the web produced by software developers large and small. One such developer is DigitWhiz, which produces games and activities to help students master foundational math skills using adaptive learning.
"In a marketplace with scores of online educational exercises, PowerMyLearning provides a trusted platform to help K-3 students, teachers, and parents make more effective use of digital learning," said Kasey Brown, founder and CEO of DigitWhiz . "Reaching kids through technology is key to closing the math achievement gap and ensuring student success. We are excited to contribute to its K-3 expansion and to reach a broader audience."
