CFP Board Registered Program Conference to Focus on Preparing Future Financial Planners

Annual meeting brings together educators from around the country

WASHINGTON, June 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. is holding its Program Directors Conference on August 11-12 in Washington, D.C. The focus of this year's conference is on preparing future financial planners through innovations in curriculum and instruction.

CFP Board's annual conference is expected to attract more than 150 representatives from institutions around the country that provide professional financial planning education and assist individuals in pursuing CFP® certification. It provides an opportunity to connect with CFP Board and faculty and program directors from financial planning education programs around the country, to share best practices for financial planning education, and to learn about CFP Board's commitment to education partnerships.

The conference features sessions by and for faculty and program directors. This year's conference includes a special focus on innovative methods of teaching within our Registered Programs.

The featured address at this year's CFP Board Registered Program Conference is a panel discussion focused on the conference theme: Preparing Future Financial Planners: Innovations in Curriculum and Instruction. The panelists will focus on two critical areas relative to curriculum and instruction in CFP Board-Registered Programs:

1. Student-centered learning objectives that outline student achievement relative to CFP Board's required topic areas.
2. Avenues for facilitating higher order cognitive thinking relative to Bloom's Taxonomy in each of the major content areas.

The resources presented in this session will be applicable to both degree and non-degree programs and relevant to all instructional delivery formats. The panelists for this address represent a wide variety of program types and delivery methods and have expertise in each of the major content areas of the CFP Board curriculum.

To become certified, people need to meet a series of qualifications. Known as the "4 Es" – education, ethics, experience and exam – education is the foundation for CFP^® certification. Candidates for CFP^® certification need to have a bachelor's degree, sit for the CFP exam and once a CFP professional, earn continuing education credits. Education programs are taught as stand-alone programs or part of receiving a baccalaureate or master's degree. CFP Board partners with 335 programs at 212 institutions.
