Colorado is facing an extreme shortage in qualified health care workers. One of the most essential groups within this industry is the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The front-line of patient care, CNAs are vital to daily operations in hospitals, clinics and nursing care facilities.
In 2011, Discover Goodwill of Southern and Western Colorado set out to remedy this shortage by establishing the Certified Nursing Assistant Program, which provides a meaningful career path to low-income individuals through CNA training, certification and job placement.
"The CNA program opens the door to personal and economic independence by providing a clear path off welfare and onto a rewarding career in health care," said Denise Krug, Vice President of Workforce Development and Community Programs for Discover Goodwill. "As the program graduates more CNAs, it will also help ensure that patients in medical facilities in southern and western Colorado get the high level of care they need and deserve."
