Thousands of Backpacks Will Be Given Away During a One-Day Event on Saturday, August 11

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., July 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Central Coast McDonald's restaurants want to make sure students are prepared for the upcoming school year. On Saturday, August 11, 2012, McDonald's restaurants in the Central Coast will be giving away over 2,000 free backpacks to kick off the back-to-school season. Each participating McDonald's restaurants in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and San Luis Obispo will be giving away 100 backpacks to students from kindergarten to 8^thgrade. Backpack distribution begins at 8:00 am, sharp!

"We decided to host this event as a way of giving back to the community that has supported us for so many years. As parents we know that getting ready for the new school year can be an overwhelming process for families. We hope our backpack giveaway helps families check at least one item off their list!" said Ted Maddux, President of the Central Coast McDonald's co-op.

When it comes to school readiness, equally important to school supplies, is having a balanced breakfast. McDonald's Wholesome Starts menu features breakfast items that are delicious, and good for the whole family. With items like the iconic Egg McMuffin® (only 300 calories), Fruit & Maple Oatmeal, milk and apple slices, there is something for everyone. "Breakfast is the perfect time to host our backpack giveaway because it's a reminder to children and parents that this is the most important meal of the day. Our restaurants have plenty of delicious and wholesome menu options for the entire family as they prepare to get back into their school-year schedules," said Mr. Maddux.

This is the first year that Central Coast McDonald's restaurants are offering free backpacks to students in the community. This offer is good at participating McDonald's restaurants in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and San Luis Obispo. Excludes Wal-Mart McDonald's. Offer valid Saturday, August 11 at 8 a.m. Child must be present for offer. One backpack per school age child (kindergarten through 8^th grade) while supplies last.
