Centerplate's In-the-Park Homerun at Mariners' Opener
Four new menu concepts a Grand Slam for hungry Seattle fans
SEATTLE, March 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Seattle Mariners hospitality partner, Centerplate, the largest event hospitality partner to North America's premier sports stadiums, convention centers and entertainment venues, is once again collaborating with noted Seattle Chef Ethan Stowell to bring exciting, fresh and local food concepts to Safeco Field.
New to the ballpark for 2013, Chef Stowell has created several new selections that include a Northwest take on South-of-the-Border flavors and an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients for the 2013 Seattle Mariners home season, which opens Monday, April 8.
Edgar's Cantina & Home Run Porch - Chef Stowell created a "Northwest Mex" menu for Edgar's Tacos, at the Home Run Porch: a basket of three fresh corn tortillas - with the choice of carne asada, carnitas, chicken or lengua (beef tongue), topped with diced onion, cilantro and cotija cheese for the Edgar's open-air restaurant and Home Run Porch lounge, both named for legendary designated hitter and Mariners Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez. Fans can wash it down with a selection of South-of-the-Border beers.
Signature Cocktails - At Edgar's, a line of signature cocktails created by Anu Apte, owner of celebrated Belltown lounge Rob Roy. The new drinks are all made with Zac, the specialty mezcal that Martinez and business partner Gene Juarez import from Mexico.
Expanded Healthier Options - vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free offerings will be highlighted by Field Roast, a locally made "wow-worthy" vegetarian frank. Vegan chef Rich Landau, owner of the award-winning Vedge restaurant in Philadelphia, created a special Bao-Choi, vegan, Asian-style steamed buns. Two options include black vinegar glazed Portobello with pickled cucumber, green chili, scallion and spicy sambal mayo; and Korean eggplant with gochujang (fermented red pepper paste), daikon radish, spicy cabbage, scallion, cilantro and kimchee mayo. Landau also created a selection of vegan dishes for the ballpark's Private Suites including Portobello Carpaccio, salt-roasted golden beets, roasted fresh market vegetables, and vegan chocolate chip cookies.
Fetzer Crimson & Quartz - Centerplate and Fetzer Vineyards are introducing a new product at Safeco Field, which will soon be available at other Centerplate venues across the country. A new custom-designed glass by manufacturer, Zipz features Fetzer's award-winning red and white wine blends Crimson & Quartz in single-serve stem wine glasses made of recyclable plastic.

Down below in Edgar's (behind the left field wall), Stowell updated the South-of-the-Border menu of the Flying Turtle Cantina (renovated and rebranded Edgar's). Fans of the authentic Mexican sandwiches known as tortas, will still find the popular pork carnitas and salchicha tortas, as well as two new options: carne asada and Chicken Milanese (with a light, crispy breading). Also new are Stowell's house-made chicken tenders with chips and salsa and a Caesar salad pizzetti single-serving Neapolitan-style thin-crust pizza.
