Centerplate to Serve Over 85,000 Meals at North American International Auto Show
STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Centerplate, the largest hospitality partner to North America's premier convention centers, is proud to serve as the hospitality host to the 2011 North American International Auto Show being held at the Cobo Center, the storied 2.4 million square foot convention facility in the heart of downtown Detroit. The company anticipates serving over 85,000 meals and catering approximately 650 private events. To serve the massive show, Centerplate will staff 30 front-of-house managers, 25 chefs, and over 450 service personnel.
This year, show visitors will be greeted with a number of experience enhancements to increase their enjoyment of the show. Notably, Centerplate has sought to celebrate Detroit and its culinary and cultural scenes throughout its services. The company has developed a series of menu concepts that include traditional regional favorites, local Detroit restaurant specialties, and in-house menu concepts created by Centerplate especially for the show. Additionally, the company will proudly feature local musicians to enhance the dining experience and better connect the show with the city and region.
Centerplate's design team has also made significant physical enhancements to its service areas throughout the facility. The company has instituted aesthetic upgrades throughout the building and deployed a new state-of-the-art point-of-sale system to speed guest service. Additionally, Centerplate has constructed five temporary kitchens on the show floor to expand the facility's cooking capacity and increase guest satisfaction and convenience.
Centerplate has also teamed up with Andiamo, Detroit's iconic fine dining Italian restaurant to develop a new dining experience in the Center. The restaurant, the Vu, is a full service, a la carte restaurant overlooking the Detroit River. The menu will feature appetizers, salads, sandwiches and burgers, and Andiamo's signature broccoli chicken Alfredo and spaghetti alla Andiamo.

In addition to functional training, the program includes a significant focus on food safety, responsible service of alcohol, and the principles and behaviors of gracious guest service for a better guest experience.

In addition to the Cobo Center, Centerplate added several new client-partners, including the Woodruff Arts Center, one of the nation's most prestigious art centers, in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Baltimore Convention Center, among others.
