Centerplate Opens State-of-the-Art Commissary in Bremerton for WSF Service
New facility will enable greater selection of freshly prepared, locally sourced menus for Washington State Ferry riders
SEATTLE, Sept. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Centerplate has announced the opening of a new commissary in Bremerton, where it will prepare and distribute food for the Washington State Ferries. The unveiling was conducted today in the presence of multiple local officials, including Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent and members of the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce.
The 10,000-square foot commissary will greatly enhance the production and storage capabilities for the different ferry routes the company services. The facility, located at 6020 Werner Road, is in a growing industrial park that is close to the local ferry terminal in Bremerton. It is strategically located for delivery to the different ferry boats.
"The completion of the new commissary greatly improves and expands what we can offer riders. We can now get ingredients — especially local fresh produce — delivered for salads, sandwiches, soups and other snacks," said Centerplate General Manager Joshua Pell. "Our partners will continue to deliver packaged items, but the commissary will offer us more storage and the ability to create a more diverse menu with bold new offerings. The greatest beneficiary to today's announcement is our customers, especially those who travel with us each day."
Boats will continue to carry local drafts and an array of local canned beer—IPAs and pale ales from spots like Sound Brewery or Silver City—and Washington wines. Crowd favorites like Caffe Vita, Beecher's mac and cheese, Uli's sausages, Sound Kombucha, Chocolate-dipped almonds from Ballard-based Wild Things, Ellenos Yogurt and cookies from Schwartz Brothers will maintain their presence, as well.
The new commissary has also added new jobs to the local economy for Washingtonians, as recent hires include a new kitchen manager and up to six production workers for the commissary. The company is also in the process of adding approximately 30 galley workers on the ferries, bringing the total workforce to 160.
"We are eager to see the Centerplate team build on its early success in providing more local brands, better selection, and healthier options for our customers," said Amy Scarton, assistant secretary for Washington State Ferries. "WSF has every confidence that this new facility will help Centerplate take its food offerings to the next level."
