Centerplate Appoints President & CEO of Sam's Club to Its Board
Brian Cornell Joins Centerplate's Board of Directors
STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Centerplate, the leading hospitality provider to North America's premier convention centers, sports stadiums and entertainment venues, today announced the appointment of Brian Cornell to its Board of Directors.

Cornell is the president and CEO of Sam's Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., where he is also an executive vice president of the company. He joined Sam's Club, the company's members-only warehouse operating segment serving the needs of individual and small business members, in 2009. Prior to joining Sam's Club, Cornell worked for Michaels Stores, Inc., the largest specialty retailer of arts and crafts in North America, where he held the position of CEO. In addition to his leadership at Sam's Club and Michaels Stores, Inc., Cornell held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Safeway and had responsibility for Safeway's marketing, merchandising, manufacturing, distribution operations as well as the company's on-line home delivery business. He has also held senior management positions at PepsiCo, including president of Pepsi-Cola North America's Food Services Division and president of Tropicana International.
Cornell has served on the boards of directors for Home Depot, Office Max and Kirin-Tropicana Inc.; he was also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Culinary Institute of America.
The announcement of Cornell to Centerplate's Board of Directors comes on the heels of other recent Centerplate news, including being selected as the hospitality partner to the Cobo Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan, and the new Niagara Convention and Civic Centre in Niagara Falls, Canada.
