Centec Joins the Open Networking Foundation to Accelerate Merchant Silicon for SDN
SUZHOU, China, Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Centec Networks, a leading innovator of IP/Ethernet switching silicon and advanced turnkey system solutions, today announced that it has joined the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a new approach to networking called Software-Defined Networking (SDN). Centec is committed to contributing to SDN development as a merchant silicon vendor and to pioneering in the promotion of SDN adoption in China.
As next generation networking moves into cloud-centric era, breaking the rigid hierarchy and closeness of the current networks are the keys to enable innovations for network applications, Software Defined Networking brings a new paradigm in how networking should be done but also posts big challenge and fundamental impact on switching silicon design. Being a member of ONF, Centec will collaborate with other industrial leaders in defining SDN architecture and standards, and in building next generation merchant switching silicon and solutions optimized for SDN.
As a key switching silicon and solution provider based in China, Centec is pioneering in SDN and OpenFlow development and deployment in China. Centec has cooperated with Tsinghua University in deploying its LiveCloud service at Suzhou International Science-park Data Center, which leverages Centec's switching silicon and OpenFlow solutions. By joining ONF, Centec is committed to applying the latest SDN technology innovations developed within ONF to its follow-on silicon and solution product offerings.
"We are excited to see continued growth of global membership in ONF," said Dan Pitt, Executive Director of the ONF. "Moreover, merchant silicon is an important part of the SDN ecosystem and will be key to fostering mass-market adoption of OpenFlow."
"OpenFlow based SDN networking opens up a new marketing opportunity for merchant switching silicon but also posts big challenges in existing switching silicon architecture and design," said Tao Gu, VP of Business Development at Centec, "We are able to leverage the superb flexibility in our switching silicon architecture to enable many highlight features on our OpenFlow solutions, such as multi flow table, GRE tunneling and MPLS switching. SDN and OpenFlow are important part of our Cloud Networking Strategy which emphasizes on openness and flexibility. We will continue to collaborate with other industry leaders within the ONF to drive SDN innovations and to improve on next generation switching silicon and solutions optimized for SDN."
Centec Networks is a technology leader providing high-speed carrier-grade IP/Ethernet switching silicon and advanced ODM/OEM system solutions.
