Cengage Learning and YouSeeU Partner to Integrate Speech Capture Software into MindTap
MindTap Offers A Fully Digital, Highly Personalized Learning Experience
BOSTON, July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing that the acquisition of communication skills impacts students' success in college and career, Cengage Learning, a leading global education company, today announced that it is integrating speech capture software from YouSeeU into MindTap – offering students an easier way to practice and improve their presentation skills. Using a series of integrated apps, called MindApps, the MindTap platform provides students with a fully online, highly personalized learning experience built upon Cengage Learning's trusted and industry-leading content.
The YouSeeU MindApp allows students to record and capture speech presentations using a webcam or phone, and upload them online for peer review and instructor evaluation. YouSeeU helps educators engage students in the learning process and extend their reach – in the classroom and out – as students use recorded video to participate in discussions, assignments, demonstrations, oral exams and other learning activities. In a traditional classroom setting, instructors can use the YouSeeU MindApp for live capture of speeches and presentations, video upload and real-time review, grading and assessment, while students can comment and collaborate on submitted presentations. The ability to practice and present helps alleviate speech anxiety and builds better oral communication skills.
"We know that face-to-face interaction is often the key to engagement and learning – especially in communications courses – but attending a class in person may not be feasible for distance-education students. With the new YouSeeU MindApp, we can provide the next best option while also enhancing the learning experience for students in traditional classroom settings," said Jim Donohue, chief product officer, Cengage Learning. "The YouSeeU software, combined with the highly personalized learning experience offered with MindTap, provides an unparalleled learning opportunity."
"This partnership with Cengage Learning supports our mutual goal of empowering users to have a more personalized and engaging connection in online environments through the use of instructor and student generated videos. We are able to deliver a consummate learning experience by integrating our technology with MindTap and Cengage Learning's content," said Dr. Jeff Lewis, founder and chief learning officer, YouSeeU.
This app is available now in MindTap products for both speech communication and business communication titles, with more to be added in fall 2014. For more information and a complete list of available MindApps, visit: http://www.cengage.com/mindtap.
