Celebrated Co-Star of Paramount's "Selma" Advocates for Patients Off-Screen
BERWYN, Pa., Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As one of the principal actors in a star-studded ensemble cast, Cuba Gooding, Jr. portrays legendary Civil Rights attorney and activist Fred Davis Gray in Paramount's upcoming film "Selma" scheduled for release on Christmas Day. No stranger to strong roles onscreen, Mr. Gooding is taking on the role of patient advocate off-screen, lending his voice and his support to NephCure Kidney International in the fight against chronic kidney disease.
Kidney disease is the ninth leading cause of death in the United States, and affects more than 26 million Americans. Nephrotic Syndrome, a particularly devastating form that includes the disease Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is the leading cause of kidney failure in children. This year, Mr. Gooding is joining NephCure at their Countdown to a Cure event on December 4 at New York's Pier 60 to STAND UP & BE COUNTED in stopping these diseases in their tracks.
FSGS and Nephrotic syndrome plagues hundreds of thousands of patients, many of them children who rely on chemotherapy medicines and high-dose steroids along with dialysis to sustain their lives. Help end their suffering, and fund the life-saving research needed to find better treatments and a cure. Supporters can join Team Cuba for a Cure by texting CURE to 50155 or visit http://www.support.nephcure.org/TeamCuba to pledge support today.
"NephCure is the only organization in the world focused on raising money for research to get better treatments and a cure for these diseases. When I learned about these conditions I knew I had to do something. I'm proud to partner with NephCure to help them raise awareness," Mr. Gooding said.
Mr. Gooding will be joined at NephCure's Countdown to a Cure on Thursday by New York luminaries and NephCure supporters Mr. Eric Trump, Executive Vice President, The Trump Organization and Task Advisor on NBC's, The Celebrity Apprentice, baseball superstar Mr. David Cone, and Grammy Award-winning recording artist, singing sensation Ms. Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child fame.
