Celebrate the Holidays at the Bush Library and Museum
COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Celebrate the holiday season with several upcoming free, family-friendly events at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University.
Community Christmas Tree Lighting – Dec. 5, 7 p.m. CST
Modeled after the annual White House tree lighting ceremony that takes place annually on the White House grounds, the ceremony will include musical entertainment, a celebrity guest tree lighter and a public reception. Throughout the month, we encourage people to take their family pictures in front of the beautifully decorated, beautifully lit tree.
Holidays in the Rotunda – Dec. 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST
This free event takes place in front of the museum's magnificently decorated 19-foot Christmas tree in the rotunda, and live entertainment and Santa's workshop will get you in the yuletide spirit. Children will be able to make holiday ornaments in the classroom, while a variety of entertainers will keep things festive in the rotunda. There will be cookies, hot chocolate and punch served during the activities.
Classic Film: Holiday Affair – Dec. 12, 7 p.m. CST
(1949, 87 minutes, Black and White) Directed by Don Hartman. Janet Leigh stars as Connie Ennis, a young widowed mother who has an unfortunate first encounter with department store clerk Steve Mason (Robert Mitchum), inadvertently causing him to get fired just before Christmas. Despite the mishap, Steve takes Connie on a date, much to the chagrin of her better-established suitor, Carl, but much to the delight of her young son, Timmy. Standard (and sweet) romantic complications follow.
Free popcorn and refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie. The film will be shown in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.
Food for Families Food Drive
We will be collecting donations of canned and non-perishable food items through Dec. 7 for KBTX Media's Food for Families Food Drive. Collection boxes will be at the main entrance near security. Save $1 off regular admission price with a food donation (limit one per person, cannot be combined with other offers).
The Bush Library and Museum offices, research room and museum will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28; Christmas Day, Dec. 25; and New Year's Day, Jan. 1. For more information about events, exhibits, hours and admission, and to plan your visit go to bushlibrary.tamu.edu/visit.
