"Through payroll withholding, payroll professionals collect 1.7 trillion dollars annually. That's 72 percent of the U.S. Treasury's revenue," said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association. "These contributions are the life-blood of America, funding important programs like highways, Social Security, child support and more."
For National Payroll Week, the APA and its 22,000 members educate the public about their paychecks and payroll-related benefits to help employees stretch their paychecks. During the week, hundreds of APA member volunteers teach teens in their communities paycheck basics for MasterCard Money Matters National Education Day on September 6. In addition, the NPW website features calculators, a smartphone app, and tips for employees to reduce taxes and save up to 35 percent on everyday costs like daycare and medical expenses.
"We want to help Americans where they need it most—their paycheck," said Dan Maddux. "Knowledge is a powerful thing, and a quick adjustment to how an employee is paid can have an immediate impact, reducing their tax burden and giving them a boost on the next paycheck and beyond."
National Payroll Week also features the popular "Getting Paid In America" online survey, which asks respondents to weigh in on topics that impact their paychecks. One grand prize winner will receive a free paycheck and a trip to Las Vegas after the survey ends on September 7.
