• New Year remains a popular time for holidaymakers to travel
• Over 4 million Brits travel overseas for celebrations
• Thomas Cook's Tunisia holidays expected to prove popular option
With 4.25 million Brits flocking overseas for Christmas and New Year's celebrations, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), leading travel operators Thomas Cook expect New Year 2013 to witness an even higher number of tourists - with their cheap holidays to Tunisia expected to be a huge hit.[1]
Tunisia
Thomas Cook have many suggestions for some of the best resorts to visit at this festive time with cheap holidays to Tunisia proving to be a prime attraction. The inhabitants of this country certainly know how to come together as a family. Families tend to get together particularly to see in the New Year with a traditional French-style cake.
Travellers might want to visit the town of Hammamett to really enjoy some party action in one of the town's many vibrant nightclubs. The resorts of the Sousse Governorate provide a good base to travel into nearby Tunis, where most restaurants and clubs will be open to those looking for a great celebration.
Turkey
For those who love fireworks then any of the many holidays to Bodrum will provide the perfect stay for New Year. The Turks love lighting up the sky in order to celebrate the occasion and the seaside resort of Bodrum has a reputation for a splendid party.
In previous years the area around the old harbour has been set up for a celebration where holidaymakers can join in with the festivities. There is usually a free concert and celebrations continue until 1st January.
After all this hectic activity, holidaymakers will be glad of the comfortable resorts at Bodrum and the peaceful golden beaches where potential hangovers can be washed away.
Dalaman
Further down the coast is Dalaman, which has become increasingly popular with UK holidaymakers. This area is sometimes known as the 'Turquoise Coast' thanks to the azure-coloured sea and for those looking for a more traditional holiday the water parks in Marmaris or a visit to a local Turkish restaurant to drink Raki and relax in a Turkish bath might prove to be the perfect tonic before heading back home.
Book into the idyllic Samira Gardens and visit the beaches and the local resort and enjoy the improved accessibility which the newly opened international airport has given the region.
