"People often overlook that 'fifth' wall – the ceiling – in their dining room," said decorative painter Patricia Presto, a design consultant for IPG (Intertape Polymer Group), a leading provider of consumer tape and packaging products. "Stenciling a ceiling medallion around your chandelier gives the room a warm, metallic glow year-round, not just for the holidays."
You will need the following supplies:
- Metallic stencil paint and brush. Metallic colors reflect light, create 'glow.'
- Stencil. Holiday or "any day" stencils are available at craft stores and online.
- Low-tack adhesive painter's tape. Presto favors IPG's Bloc-it™ painter's tape.
- Drop cloths to protect flooring
Ceiling Medallion Directions
- Secure stencil sides with painter's tape on one side of chandelier. The stencil will be one half of the finished design; repeat it on the other side.
- Lightly dip the stencil brush into the pot or craft paint on paper plate.
- Remove excess paint onto paper towels. A light paint coating is key to ensuring clean, crisp stencil lines.
- With a pouncing motion, apply paint onto stencil openings. Don't swirl or move the brush back and forth to avoid pushing paint under the stencil.
- Lift the stencil carefully from ceiling after paint is dry. Repeat process to add additional colors.
- Repeat entire process on other side.
