CEIBS Launches Dual MMH-MBA Degree with Cornell
SHANGHAI, Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) will collaborate with the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University to offer a dual Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Through the new program, which will have its first intake of students in fall 2015, students will learn from expert faculty from both schools, get hands-on experience in an international setting, and gain valuable cultural and business perspectives.
"China is the second-largest economy in the world, and its hospitality industry is poised for dramatic expansion. As the Chinese middle class grows, domestic hospitality companies are building new brands and international brands are expanding into the country," said Michael D. Johnson, dean and E. M. Statler Professor at the School of Hotel Administration. "CEIBS is one of the top-ranked business schools both in this market and the world, making it a perfect partner for our first MMH-MBA dual degree."
Through the innovative dual-degree program, students can complete the AACSB-accredited MMH and MBA degrees over the course of two years, the MMH degree at Cornell and the MBA degree at CEIBS. Students will begin the program at either CEIBS or Cornell, spending their second year at the alternate campus.
"An understanding of the way business is done in China, within a global context, is now an invaluable asset - as it will be for years to come - and the country's service industry is becoming increasingly important," said Hellmut Schutte, CEIBS Dean and Distinguished Professor of International Management. "CEIBS is pleased to be able to collaborate with Cornell in offering this opportunity of a dual degree that aligns two very important areas."
The dual degree will offer a well-rounded hospitality management education with courses in operations management, organizational behavior, corporate finance, marketing, properties development and planning, managerial communication, human resource management, responsible leadership and governance, and more. Industry projects will be an important component of the program, and students will complete an internship at a hospitality or related service industry during the summer between their first and second years.
"Our MMH program has always attracted students from all over the world. By offering a dual degree with CEIBS, we can continue to enhance the global presence of the MMH degree and attract some of China's most talented business students to the program," said Rohit Verma, professor of services operations management and Singapore Tourism Board Professor of Asian Hospitality Management at the School of Hotel Administration, who led development of the dual degree program.
Established in 1994 in Shanghai, CEIBS is mainland China's leading business school. Its programs, now offered in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Accra Ghana, have been ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek China, Forbes Magazine, and Financial Times.
