SANDUSKY, Ohio, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and immersive entertainment, will introduce a diverse array of new rides and attractions for the 2019 operating season, including two thrill-packed roller coasters in unique themed areas at Canada's Wonderland and Carowinds. In addition, Cedar Fair will launch new attractions to appeal to kids, tweens and families; add a new hotel; introduce new and upgraded dining venues and catering areas; and expand its festival and event offerings, highlighted by the addition of a sixth season-extending WinterFest holiday celebration.
Cedar Fair's President and CEO Richard Zimmerman said, "The investments we make to further improve our parks each year allow us to provide unparalleled experiences that delight our guests and differentiate Cedar Fair in the industry. Each season we introduce exciting new attractions, including roller coasters and immersive family rides, holiday-themed celebrations, and upgraded food and beverage programs. Our guests appreciate the unique, exhilarating, memorable and fun experiences available at Cedar Fair's entertainment properties."
The highlights of Cedar Fair's capital lineup in 2019 include:
- Canada's Wonderland, located outside of Toronto, will introduce Yukon Striker, a transformational coaster that will be the longest, fastest and tallest dive coaster in the world. With the addition of Yukon Striker, the park will have the second greatest number of roller coasters of any amusement park on earth. The coaster will anchor the newly themed Frontier Canada area, representing the rugged Yukon backcountry during the Klondike gold rush era of the late 1890s.
- Carowinds, straddling the North and South Carolina borders near Charlotte, continues to round out its impressive coaster collection with Copperhead Strike, a double launch coaster with five inversions that whip riders through a trail of twisted intensity. Copperhead Strike is the central element of the park's new richly themed Blue Ridge Junction area, inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountain region of the Carolinas.
- Cedar Point, the Company's flagship park in Sandusky, Ohio, will introduce a mysterious immersive experience with its new Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island attraction. Guests will interact with characters as they unlock puzzles and enjoy physically active challenges. The Forbidden Frontier is located on an actual island within the park, and is designed to entertain teens, tweens and adults, engaging both brains and brawn to create a one-of-a-kind adventure.
In 2019, a total of seven Cedar Fair parks will remain open through November and December when the immersive holiday experience WinterFest is added to Canada's Wonderland. WinterFest features imaginative themed areas, millions of vivid lights, specialty foods, ice skating and falling snow. Guests may engage in interactive events and enjoy original holiday music and shows performed by the classic PEANUTS personalities and special WinterFest characters, while enjoying many of the parks' other rides and attractions.
To strengthen its appeal for a multi-day guest experience, Carowinds expects its new hotel, SpringHill Suites by Marriott at Carowinds, to begin welcoming guests in late 2019. This addition will offer Cedar Fair guests and other travelers a total of five hotels on or near park properties, including the Knott's Hotel at Knott's Berry Farm in Southern California, and the historic Hotel Breakers, Express Hotel and Castaway Bay properties next to Cedar Point.
The Company continues to upgrade its dining venues and cuisine, providing a wider variety of innovative food offerings at its parks. Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri, will introduce a new flagship restaurant, Boathouse Grill, showcasing Kansas City barbecue, homestyle sides and desserts, and healthy options. Carowinds will open the Blue Ridge Country Kitchen in its new themed area, offering traditional farm-fresh foods.
For families with young children, the Company is expanding its successful "Pre-K Pass" program to California's Great America in Santa Clara. The program provides children aged 3 to 5 with a free season pass; parents must register their children and activate the pass to be eligible. In 2019, a total of seven Cedar Fair parks will offer the free Pre-K Pass to help families with younger children visit the parks repeatedly throughout the year.
Zimmerman added, "Looking ahead to 2019, we will continue deploying our industry expertise and investment capital to offer premier experiences that are unsurpassed among regional entertainment destinations. Fun generation drives value creation at Cedar Fair."
