WASHINGTON, March 23, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The latest COVID-19 stimulus package continues to remain in Congressional gridlock. As part of The Committee for Economic Development of The Conference Board's (CED) ongoing COVID-19 efforts, co-chaired by Trustees Joseph Kasputys and Bowman Cutter, to ensure the public policy response is fast, flexible and targeted, CED released the following statement:
"The United States Senate and the House of Representatives must begin to accept the urgency and import of their responsibilities today. The US economy hangs on confidence and trust. If our elected policymakers cannot achieve agreement, that confidence and trust will rupture, and the harm to our nation's citizens will be enormous.
"Targeting and fairness are important. Action is essential. Honorable compromise can keep our economy moving until our health care heroes can reach their objective, and our people can again do their work. The perfect must not be the enemy of the necessary, and the millions of Americans whose livelihoods are on the line need help now."
Joseph Kasputys is Chairman & CEO of Economic Ventures. He was Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Commerce under the Ford Administration. He is Co-Chair of CED's Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19.
Bowman Cutter, Senior Fellow and Director of the Next American Economy Project at the Roosevelt Institute. He was Director of the National Economic Council and Deputy Assistant to the President during the Clinton Administration. He is a Co-Chair of CED's Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19.
