WASHINGTON, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Committee for Economic Development (CED) recognizes Thomas J. McInerney, a CED Trustee and the President and CEO of Genworth Financial, Inc. with the Leadership in the Nation's Interest Award. The signature CED Award is reserved for business executives who lead their companies with the utmost integrity and purpose, and champion issues for the common good.
Kathleen A. Murphy, President of Fidelity Personal Investing, will provide introductory remarks and present him with the Award. Kathleen noted, "Tom has been a mentor, role model and dear friend. He is richly deserving of this award, which recognizes his strong leadership over many years, the impressive impact he has made to the communities he serves, and his unwavering commitment to advancing the greater good in areas ranging from adoption of sound public policy to improving diversity. Tom's leadership has been both significant and impactful."
As the President and CEO of Genworth Financial, Inc., Tom has spearheaded several programs and initiatives that promote the common good. Leveraging his extensive insurance and financial expertise, Tom has worked to advance healthcare reform, fiscal responsibility, and educational programs that prepare the workforce to compete globally. Notably, he has worked diligently to promote gender diversity on corporate boards and in executive management.
"I am very grateful and deeply honored to have been chosen as the 2018 Leadership in the Nation's Interest Award recipient," McInerney said. "Although many awards are based on returns and financial performance, this recognition acknowledges leaders who believe that focusing on the greater good advances the interests of the organizations and individuals they serve. I share this award with my colleagues at Genworth, who fully have embraced this fundamental principle."
"From issues ranging from diversity to debt reduction, Tom's leadership makes him one of our country's preeminent business leaders," said Bernard C. Bailey, the President of CED. "Honoring Tom, whom we are proud to call a CED Trustee, with this accolade not only highlights his positive contributions; ultimately, it inspires other executives across the nation to follow suit."
The Award ceremony will take place at the Leadership in the Nation's Interest Award Dinner, following CED's 2018 Fall Policy Conference at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C. Learn more about the Conference and Award Dinner here.
