CEC Partnership Opens Specialized CBT Pilot Program In Colorado
WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Jan. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Community Education Centers, (CEC) Inc., announced today the opening of a new Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment (CBT) program in community corrections that will operate at CEC's Tooley Hall in Denver, Colorado. The newly created pilot program is a joint effort with the Denver Department of Community Corrections, (DDCC) and will serve the needs of high-risk offenders referred from the Colorado Department of Corrections (DOC) and Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ).
"We are very grateful to have an opportunity to partner with the Denver Department of Community Corrections to create this specialized program that addresses criminogenic needs of high-risk offenders by the implementation of cognitive behavioral therapy," said James E. Hyman, CEO. "CEC is honored to continue to build on its forty year history of providing community corrections treatment programming in Colorado in an effort to reduce recidivism."
The CBT pilot program will target male offenders with high-risk and high intrinsic needs in the four leading criminogenic needs areas: antisocial mindsets and cognitive structures, criminal orientation/personality, and impulse control skill deficits. The intensive pilot program is custom designed by CEC and DDCC, and will utilize the University of Cincinnati's Cognitive Behavioral Interventions – Comprehensive Curriculum (CBI-CC), a research based treatment approach to provide the best mechanism to change behavior and fill skill deficits of its participants. The 48-bed program will be in effect for five years, reaching at least 200 participants annually.
The CEC/DDCC program will additionally seek the support of community and faith-based organizations throughout the Denver area that will assist participants in their transition to the community upon release. Both organizations have long term relationships in the community that will serve as a valuable resource.
The need for the specialized programming was determined from research conducted by the Community Corrections Task Force of the Colorado Commission on Criminal Juvenile Justice (CCJJ), a multi-disciplinary group of community corrections and criminal justice stakeholders indicating that high-risk offenders would benefit from CBT.
