BEIJING, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On October 14, 2018 in Cannes, France, CCTV Documentary International Media Co. (CDIMC), together with China International Television Corporation (CITVC) and CCTV Entertainment Channel (CCTV) held a showcase event titled The Nation's Greatest Treasures: Creating New Legends. The event promoted the CCTV original docu-tainment studio show The Nation's Greatest Treasures (TNGT) and two new projects. Since its Chinese launch in December 2017, TNGT was a major hit with its viewers. Due to this success, CCTV is launching new content related to the show, working with 2 international media partners. A signing ceremony was held with Endemol Shine Group, on the international format, and with BBC World News channel for a new specialist factual documentary series. The two projects will showcase traditional Chinese culture, celebrating the beauty of Chinese art.
The Nation's Greatest Treasures is a weekly entertainment studio show commissioned by CCTV, produced by CDIMC with 800 million TV views and online video sites. Viewers created 1.88+ billion comments (August 2018) on social media platforms like Sina Weibo. The fascination of the program increased museum attendance by 50%. The show combines the genres of documentary and variety entertainment show to create a new genre "docu-tainment." By portraying ancient Chinese history in a modern way, the show brings a unique visual experience to all audiences. Excellent production skills and innovative story-telling techniques, earned TNGT the "White Magnolia Award" for "Best Weekly Entertainment TV Show" (24th Shanghai TV Festival June 2018).
Building on the success of the show in China, CDIMC and CCTV are working with global production company Endemol Shine Group to jointly develop a version of TNGT for sale to international broadcasters, providing the show with a broader platform to showcase art and culture. CDIMC will share its special production experience with global production companies, and promote the protection of cultural legacy in other countries. The international format is expected to hit the market by 4Q 2018.
Based on the museum access and resources of the studio show, CDIMC will also work with the BBC World News & bbc.com on the new documentary series China's Greatest Treasures to present Chinese artefacts to global audiences. CDIMC has commissioned UK-based Mustang Films to deliver a 6 x 30 series, currently in development and expected to be delivered in 3/4Q 2019.
