CCTV America wins Three Medals at the New York Festivals International TV & Film Awards
WASHINGTON, April 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- CCTV America – the U.S. production arm of China Central television - has taken one Gold and two Bronze World Medals at the New York Festivals Television and Film Awards.
At a ceremony held Tuesday night at the Westgate Las Vegas Hotel, Bronze Medal honors for best television news coverage of Afghanistan went to CCTV America's "Newshour." National Correspondent Sean Callebs returned to the country where he once serviced as a U.S. State department official. In a special series of reports, Callebs described in compelling detail growing unrest before Afghanistan's 2014 elections. Travelling from Kabul the series explored the Taliban threat to security and the dangers posed to the long term economic life of the nation.
CCTV America anchor Anand Naidoo took a Bronze World Medal for Best Television news anchor specifically for the nightly talk program "The Heat" and its treatment of the former chairman of the far-right British National Party, Nick Griffin. Anchor Naidoo skillfully handled controversy without confrontation in a program that probed "far right-wing" politics in Europe.
On behalf of the weekly magazine program "Americas Now," Executive Producer Humberto Duran and Deputy Managing Editor Guo Chun accepted a Gold World Medal for the program's powerful reporting from Haiti. Correspondent Gerry Hadden followed the work of two Haitian health care professionals in the squalor of Port-au-Prince's 'Cite Soleil' shantytown. Hadden portrayed a nation whose daily health care burdens would be a state of emergency in any developed country.
