CCS Announces Names of Mitch Albom Detroit Dream Fund Scholars
2012/2013 Scholarship Recipients Introduced at Press Conference and Reception
DETROIT, Oct. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The College for Creative Studies (CCS) is proud to announce that four outstanding candidates have been selected to receive scholarships from the Mitch Albom Detroit Dream Scholars Fund. Albom established this fund for Detroit students with demonstrable artistic merit and financial need. Last year, he challenged community members to follow his lead and many other donors responded. To date, there has been $375,046 raised for this initiative. On Tues., Oct. 2, CCS is holding a press conference and reception to celebrate this year's scholars at Center Galleries on the College's Walter and Josephine Ford Campus at 2:00 p.m.
Sherell Garrison, the 2011/2012 scholarship recipient, is a Fine Arts major at CCS and has, so far, participated in two community arts projects. It is important to Albom that all of the Detroit Dream Scholar Fund students give back to Detroit.
Since 1991, Albom has donated more than $115,000 to CCS through his Mitch Albom Dream Fund endowment to fund more than 50 Detroit children's participation in the arts. Last year, he started the Detroit Dream Scholars Fund with a $60,000 donation to CCS and challenged other community members to donate. This year's scholarship recipients are: Illustration Freshman Kyle Jordan (graduate of Cass Technical High School), Entertainment Arts Freshman Kellye Perdue (graduate of Cass Technical High School), Interior Design Freshman Beverly Robinson (graduate of Martin L. King, Jr. High School), and Graphic Design Freshman Kevin Beltran (graduate of Western International High School).
The Detroit Dream Scholars Fund press conference and reception will take place on Tues., Oct. 2 at 2:00 p.m. in CCS' Center Galleries. This event will feature check presentations and an opportunity for donors and media members to meet the newest scholarship recipients. Mitch Albom will also be in attendance.
