CCRM Network Offering Expedited Fertility Preservation Services for Cancer Patients
DENVER, Feb. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine (CCRM) network is pleased to offer patients diagnosed with cancer expedited fertility preservation services.
Each year, approximately 150,000 men and women age 45 and younger are diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, the five-year overall survival rate for these patients is approximately 80 percent. An estimated 30–75 percent of males and 40–80 percent of females in this population are rendered infertile as a result of cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
"A very real and unfortunate side effect of cancer and cancer treatment is infertility," said Laxmi Kondapalli, M.D., medical director at CCRM Colorado and renowned oncofertility expert. "As cancer treatments improve, more people are looking at quality of life after cancer, which includes growing a family. In order to minimize any delay in starting cancer treatment, we offer our patients compassionate, expedited fertility preservation services."
CCRM's streamlined triage system allows patients to be seen by a physician within 24 to 48 hours of referral. CCRM also utilizes a random start stimulation approach to expedite clinical care. The ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval process takes less than two weeks.
In addition to expedited services, CCRM also provides a 20 percent discount to cancer patients interested in fertility preservation. "CCRM is pleased to align itself with several non-profit organizations and pharmacies to provide enhanced and affordable access to fertility medications for our patients that are already facing overwhelming stress due to a cancer diagnosis," said Sharon Moayeri, M.D., medical director at CCRM Orange County.
