CBS Outdoor Renews Contract With Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority
DC transit system one of largest in country; CBS Outdoor to continue handling all metro rail and bus advertising
Renewal comes on heels of CBS Outdoor reclaiming lucrative New York City MTA contract, also on more favorable terms
NEW YORK, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- CBS Outdoor has renewed its contract with the Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMATA), one of the nation's largest public transportation systems, as announced today by Wally Kelly, president and chief executive officer, CBS Outdoor. The new agreement includes Washington D.C. transit advertising on both bus and rail systems, totaling 86 metro stations, 1,200 rail cars and more than 1,300 buses. The renewal spans three years, with four single year options. Additional terms of the contract are not being disclosed.
WMATA is the country's fourth largest transit agency, carrying an estimated 1.2 million riders each day. CBS Outdoor's renewal with WMATA comes on the heels of it winning back the lucrative bus and commuter rail contract with New York's MTA. Combined with its other transit relationships, including Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, and Cleveland, CBS Outdoor has become North America's largest transit advertising business.
"On the heels of CBS reclaiming the contract for New York City's bus and commuter rail systems, our deal with the WMATA establishes CBS Outdoor as the leader in the transit business," said Kelly. "And like New York, this agreement was struck on more favorable terms for us and assures that both CBS and Washington D.C.'s MTA can capitalize on this dynamic market."
Continued Kelly: "We're committed to the public transportation business, and we're thrilled to be once again growing our footprint in this lucrative sector. Our agreements with both New York and Washington D.C. prove that no one has the history, experience or infrastructure that CBS Outdoor can offer to transit systems."
