CHICAGO, July 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago Board Options Exchange® (CBOE®) today announced it is collaborating with the Singapore Exchange (SGX) to launch the first international extension of the world-renowned CBOE Options Institute. The "CBOE Options Institute at SGX" is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The CBOE–SGX educational collaboration leverages CBOE's options education expertise and the trusted "CBOE Options Institute" brand with SGX's position as a gateway to Asian financial markets.
The CBOE Options Institute at SGX will be dedicated to engaging Asian investors in the effective use of options and volatility strategies to manage risk. The program will be part of the Singapore Exchange's SGX Academy, combining SGX's Asian investor reach as well as its track record in investor education with The Options Institute's leadership in developing options content and educating investors.
"CBOE's Options Institute continues to grow and pave the way for greater understanding of our evolving products and markets. We're delighted to collaborate with the SGX team to launch the first international extension of The Options Institute. This joint endeavor leverages the strengths of both companies to quickly and efficiently ramp up to respond to the tremendous interest we see for options and volatility trading in Asia," said CBOE Holdings CEO Edward T. Tilly.
Commenting on the announcement, Chew Sutat, Executive Vice President of SGX, said, "We are delighted to be partnering with CBOE, the pioneer in securities options education, and to be selected as its first international collaboration partner. This collaboration is an important step in our aim to further engage, educate and enable investors in Asia."
CBOE's copyrighted curriculum and content will be adapted for the programs by CBOE, and program materials will be available in English and Mandarin. Instructors at SGX will be trained by veteran experienced instructors from The Options Institute at CBOE.
The Options Institute, now in its 30th year, has seen strong demand for options education from Asian market participants, many of whom travel to Chicago to attend weeklong options programs at CBOE's state-of-the-art learning facilities. The Options Institute's curriculum is taught by options trading professionals and covers all levels of options trading -- from basic options primers, to trading complex strategies, to managing client positions. The CBOE Options Institute at SGX is the second CBOE educational initiative planned for Asia in 2015. CBOE will bring its Risk Management Conference (RMC), the premier educational forum for users of equity and volatility derivatives, to Hong Kong, November 30 to December 1.
CBOE increasingly has made access to its products more convenient for both international and U.S. customers who trade outside of regular U.S. trading hours. CBOE Volatility Index® (VIX® Index) futures now trade nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week. Approximately 8 percent of the CBOE Futures Exchange's total volume is now transacted outside of regular U.S. trading hours.
In March 2015, CBOE expanded trading hours for VIX® options and S&P 500® Index (SPX) options with an additional trading session that runs from 2:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. CT, Monday through Friday, which coincides with the opening of the markets in London and afternoon trading in Hong Kong.
