WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) will continue in its rich tradition of hosting a spirit-filled morning with its 40th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) Prayer Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on September 18 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant, pastor of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore, Md., will deliver the morning message. Empowerment Temple is one of the fastest growing churches in the A.M.E. denomination.
Grammy Award winning artist, Fred Hammond will participate in the Prayer Breakfast. The prayer breakfast comes on the closing day of the ALC – a four-day educational outlet from September 15-18 which highlights the mission of CBCF – to develop leaders, to inform policy and to educate the public. It also provides almost 100 forums to address the critical challenges facing the African-American community. The Foundation will offer numerous session tracks to present high level, thought-provoking, engaging and useful information. Also offered during the four-day event are free health screenings, a job fair, interactive financial sessions, networking opportunities and cultural activities. ALC is recognized as one of the most important gatherings of African-American leaders in the nation.
"The Prayer Breakfast has become a much anticipated event which attracts sometimes three or four generations of families," said Elsie L. Scott, president and CEO of CBCF. "Because of the religious diversity across America, we have speakers from different denominations who reflect the many beliefs held in this country. The common thread are the prayers asking for guidance in governing our families, our communities, our nation and our world."
The breakfast will also include prayers and donations toward the Foundation's Haitian Relief Fund. CBCF will match up to $250,000 in contributions. In July, CBCF donated $100,000 to three relief organizations for their continued work in Haiti following the January 12 earthquake.
