Cayman Islands' WestStar TV Selects Broadcast International's CodecSys as the framework for new OTT service
New service opens opportunities for smaller markets
SALT LAKE CITY, July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadcast International (BCST.OB), a leading provider of video-powered broadcast solutions, including IP, digital satellite, Internet streaming and other types of wired/wireless network distribution, was selected to provide the framework for WestStar TV's new Over-the-Top (OTT) service via the Company's CodecSys patented multi-codec compression software. The announcement was made today by Steve Jones, vice president and general manager of the CodecSys Division, from headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Located in the capital city of George Town on Grand Cayman, WestStar TV is the digital cable television service operating in the Cayman Islands. The organization was first established in 1993 with two broadcast stations, CITN & CTS and has since added the tourist information channel Discover Cayman and operates local broadcast station Channel 27. Cayman 27 produces high-quality local news, sports, weather, and cultural programming, while WestStar brings the world to Cayman with a wide selection of entertainment, news, information, children's and sports packages.
Broadcast International will provide a comprehensive solution that includes CodecSys encoding and transcoding, as well as content management and development, integration services, and web site development. The new service will permit subscribers to access a variety of programming as well as the local channels on mobile devices and PCs, and includes a Network Personal Video Recorder (NPVR) that allows content to be recorded and recalled at any time for up to two weeks.
