Catherine Miranda Launches 2018 Campaign For US House Of Representatives
PHOENIX, Jan. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Arizona State Senator Catherine Miranda has filed to run for the Democratic nomination in Congressional District 7, which covers South Phoenix, Maryvale, Phoenix Historic District, Laveen, Guadalupe, Tolleson and parts of Glendale.
Born and raised in South Phoenix, Miranda brings real, home-grown knowledge of the educational and economic issues this district faces. As a construction worker, her father helped build the Salvation Army Recreation Center, which is now known as the KROC Center. Her mother worked at Airesearch Manufacturing Company, which is now Honeywell, before passing away from breast cancer when Miranda was 17 years old. Miranda learned first-hand the kitchen table issues hard working South Phoenix families face day in and day out.
After graduating from the Arizona Public School system, Miranda knew she wanted to give back to the community. Here in the state, Miranda first worked as a teacher, then an administrator, and finally a school board member. She is currently the ranking member on the Education Committee, where she has fought for public education funding and better teacher pay.
Inspired by her late husband Ben Miranda, she first ran for the Arizona House in 2010, and now represents Legislative District 27 in the Senate. She has consistently fought for education, immigrants, jobs and veterans. For instance, while in the Senate, she founded the bipartisan Arizona Legislature Business Education Forum, successfully bringing the business and education communities together to drive true effectual policies.
As a Democrat in the Republican-controlled Arizona legislature, Miranda put partisanship aside to get the beneficial change her constituents expect. With their interests in mind, Miranda has become adept at navigating the political fights necessary to produce real change for her district, and for the people of Arizona.
"Ed Pastor left a legacy in CD7 – one of working to bring programs and funding back to his district. As a Democratic member of the US House of Representatives, I will do the same. The hardline, partisan obstruction that might garner headlines does nothing for the people of Arizona. I will work to restore the relationships necessary in Congress to get things done for South Phoenix, Maryvale, Phoenix Historic District, Glendale, Laveen, Guadalupe and Tolleson." - Senator Catherine Miranda.
Senator Catherine Miranda is a proud, lifelong Democrat, and a native Arizonan who is married with three children.
