Caterpillar Inc. Named to Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for the Tenth Consecutive Year
Company Recognized as Industrial Engineering Sector Leader
PEORIA, Ill., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Caterpillar Inc. has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) for the tenth straight year and once again been recognized as the sustainability leader in the Industrial Engineering sector.
"Caterpillar has been committed to sustainability for many years. We believe it's both the right thing to do and a real business opportunity. Our ongoing inclusion on the DJSI exemplifies our progress in aligning our sustainability efforts with our business strategy," said Doug Oberhelman, Caterpillar CEO.
Launched in 1999, the annual DJSI process involves a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate strategy, supply chain standards and labor practices.
Sustainable Development for Caterpillar means leveraging technology and innovation to increase efficiency and productivity with less impact on the environment and helping customers do the same – enabling their businesses to become more productive by providing products, services and solutions that use resources more efficiently.
"We want our customers to know they can count on Caterpillar and our dealers to provide solutions to their unique challenges," said Oberhelman. "I can't have a conversation with a customer without the topic of the environment and sustainability coming up. Our customers are under increasing pressure to do more with less impact on the environment. It's one of their greatest demands and so it becomes one of ours."
Caterpillar's annual Sustainability Report further explains the company's focus on sustainability. The 2009 Sustainability Report highlights how a focus on sustainable development continues to present a significant opportunity for business growth and profitability for both Caterpillar and our customers.
