MIDDLETOWN, Pa., May 13, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Thanks to strong ticket sales, the Pennsylvania Lottery Cash 5 jackpot for Friday, May 13, was increased Friday morning to $1.4 million.
The jackpot had rolled to $1.3 million after no players matched all five numbers drawn in the Thursday, May 12, drawing. The jackpot has not been won since the May 5 drawing.
"We don't often have the occasion to increase a Cash 5 jackpot after it's already rolled, so this is very good news for our players," said Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko.
Tonight's jackpot is the largest Cash 5 jackpot to be offered since the October 3, 2015 drawing, when a $1.8 million jackpot was shared by three winning tickets. The game's largest jackpot on record is a $1.9 million prize from the February 6, 2013 drawing that was split by two winning tickets.
How to play Cash 5: To play Cash 5, players pay $1 and select five numbers from 1 to 43. Players may select their own numbers using a Cash 5 playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. Players also win prizes for matching two, three or four winning numbers. Cash 5 drawings are held seven nights a week, and tickets can be purchased up to seven draws (one week) in advance. Chances of winning the jackpot prize are 1 in 962,598; the overall chances of winning any prize are about 1 in 10.5.
