Casetabs Surgery Coordination App Is Gaining Traction
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Coordinating a surgery is no small task. For just one surgery, there at least 5 to 10 people that need to be intimately aware of all case details, including schedule data, procedure details, and equipment needs. If any one team member misses a piece of information, the case can be delayed, cancelled, and/or create unnecessary chaos. And that's just one case. Now try to coordinate 50 cases in a single day, and it is a serious challenge.
Today, an app called Casetabs is streamlining surgery coordination (casetabs.com). The product is currently supporting 1,000 cases per week for multiple subscribing centers since its initial rollout in May. Casetabs is a mobile and desktop app that creates a simple, central hub for sharing case information and real-time updates. When using the app, each surgery has a unique "case team" that is empowered to access and share important information, which can include schedule changes, case and product status updates, comments, documents, images, and other case details. These case team members often include nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, office staff, technicians, and vendor reps.
At a multi-specialty surgery center in Los Angeles, the surgery center administrator says, "Casetabs really helps with our inter-department communication. Today, our staff, physicians, and vendor reps all use Casetabs to communicate in a unified manner." Casetabs also drives digital surgery boards that broadcast real-time case information on large LCD displays for both patient and staff viewing. In Denver, a surgery scheduler tells us, "We just replaced our old whiteboards with Casetabs's 50 inch digital surgery boards placed in pre-op, the OR suite, post-op, and also the waiting room."
Casetabs has received over $1.7M in investments from an affiliate of Evolution Capital Management, a global investment firm, and other individual and institutional partners. Evolution has invested in and built many successful technology and growth businesses, including Tora Trading Technologies (www.tora.com).
We asked Casetabs CEO, Gavin Fabian, what is in the company's future. "Since we started Casetabs, our mission has been to meaningfully improve surgical case communication. It is our hope that Casetabs will improve patient care and reduce costs. Over the last year, in collaboration with our early customers, we have begun to deliver on that mission and have built a product that clearly improves surgery coordination. But, there is a lot of work ahead, and we're excited to continue innovating more simple and efficient ways to coordinate surgeries."
