MCHENRY, Illinois, November 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Medela Healthcare proudly presents the results of a case series which prove the clinical efficacy of Medela's Invia® Liberty™ and single-patient-use Invia® Motion™ NPWT systems. NPWT has become an indispensable tool in reconstructive surgery to accelerate wound healing and patient transition from hospital to home care. "We are glad to announce that Invia Liberty and Invia Motion were evaluated successfully for clinical efficacy, safety and ease of use. The positive patient outcomes of this case series confirms that we have clinically sound conventional NPWT and single-patient-use solutions. Clinicians and hospital administrators have concerns about inefficient transition processes and we are pleased that our simplifying solutions are proven to have clinical efficacy and contribute to fast patient healing", states John Broughton, Marketing Director Medela Healthcare US.

Within the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC)[1] Fall 2016, Dr. Charles K. Lee, Chief of Plastic Surgery and Director of Reconstructive Microsurgery, St. Mary's Medical Center (SMMC), San Francisco and Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), shares his experience with the new NPWT devices: "These cases clearly validate the relevance of Medela's NPWT devices Invia Liberty and Invia Motion in managing complex surgical wounds."
Medela's NPWT device(s) were used in the head, neck, trunk as well as lower extremities and were applied in the operating room immediately following surgery. Four patients underwent graft placements, two underwent flap procedures, and one device was applied post debridement for bridge therapy. In order to protect the surgical wound from an unfavourable healing environment, a silver contact layer was applied under the NPWT foam dressing in three cases. The NPWT foam dressing remained in place for three to ten days.
The gratifying outcome of the seven patient cases proves: Medela's NPWT devices successfully managed the surgeon's healing objectives and therefore validates Invia Liberty's and Invia Motion's relevance as alternative NPWT devices for several types of surgical wounds. "The four acute patients healed without any complications with the result that NPWT was discontinued after 5-7 days", summarizes Dr. Charles K. Lee on the positive patient outcomes. He complements: "Concerning the three patients discharged home, all managed the portable NPWT device Invia Motion easily and independently with no complications, resulting in complete healing of their surgical sites. The patients and their families were very satisfied with the overall experience from surgery to the discharge to home, successfully avoiding the need for an extended inpatient stay."
