Cascal N.V. Nominated as Water Company of the Year Finalist For 2010 Global Water Awards
LONDON, March 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cascal N.V. (NYSE: HOO), a leading provider of water and wastewater services in eight countries, today announced that it has been nominated in the Water Company of the Year category for this year's Global Water Awards. Each nominated company was chosen from a list of contenders, which was then narrowed to the top four in the category. The winners will be announced at an industry awards ceremony to be held in Paris on April 26.
"We are very happy to be nominated for such a prestigious award," said Stephane Richer, Cascal's Chief Executive Officer. "The Water Company of the Year category highlights water companies that have made significant contributions to the development of the international water sector during 2009, and we see this as validation of the hard work that was put in by our entire team."
During 2009, Cascal's Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water subsidiary was ranked first out of all U.K. water companies for overall performance in Ofwat's annual Service and Delivery Assessment report. In addition, Cascal's South African operations were awarded "Blue Drop" status by the Department of Environment and Water Affairs for their provision of high-quality water services. Blue Drop status was only achieved by 5% of the country's water networks.
