Caruth Foundation Grants $2 Million Gift to help build the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
DALLAS, June 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance has received a $2 million grant from the Dallas-based W.W. Caruth, Jr. Foundation at Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) to be used for the construction of a state-of-the-art museum and education center and to fulfill its program expansion goals.
The gift is among the largest contributions to the Museum since it launched its "Building a Foundation of Hope" capital campaign last year. The Museum will break ground on the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum this year.
"We are extremely thankful to CFT and the Caruth Foundation for standing in solidarity with the mission of the Museum to combat prejudice, hatred, and indifference," said Museum President & CEO Mary Pat Higgins.
Half of the gift—$1 million—will go toward the construction of the new Museum in Downtown Dallas. The 50,000 square-foot facility will house innovative exhibit spaces, a 250-seat Cinemark XD Theater to show films and host the Museum's popular Upstander Speaker Series, and a climate-controlled archive housing the Museum's growing collection of artifacts, and a memorial room for reflection and discussion.
The other half of the gift—$1 million—will go toward the Museum's educational programs.
"We view the robust educational mission and effective approaches taken by the Dallas Holocaust Museum for the benefit of our North Texas community as a transformational investment not only in a building but in crucial programming," said Dave Scullin, President and CEO of CFT.
